Teachers Supply Closet a Success
The Teachers Supply Closet was begun in 2003 and has continued each year to provide teachers in Roane County with supplies needed in their classrooms. On September 29, 2009, sixty-nine teachers from fourteen schools came through the Closet and walked out with bags of needed supplies. Additionally, there were prize drawings for teachers to receive restaurant gift certificates and USB flash drives. The teachers were excited about the support from the community and very appreciative to everyone who made this happen for them
To make this event possible, many individuals and companies donated supplies while others donated cash. A total of $3,400 was donated and used to purchase classroom supplies. While this year's donations were higher than $2,410 donated in 2007, it was lower than the record amount of $6,638 in 2008. Clearly, the impact of the depressed economy during the past year helped to lower cash donations in 2009. The Roane Alliance and Roane State Community College are co-sponsors of the Teachers Supply Closet.
To all of the donors: Thank you for your support of our teachers!
