Record-Setting Annual Job Growth, Roane Alliance 2010 Annual Report Says

Tuesday March 01, 2011
More than 1,100 net new jobs created in 2010

  Kingston, TN - From the beginning to the end of 2010, more than 1,100 net jobs were created by Roane County's major employers and local industrial sector, according to a recently-released 2010 Roane Alliance Annual Report.

"These are record-setting numbers," Leslie Henderson, President/CEO of The Roane Alliance said. "...some of these are coming from earlier lay-offs, but hundreds and hundreds of them are newly created this year. And maybe most important, the increases are seen across the board, from many different sectors, and they are net increases, as only a handful of employers from our industrial guide reporting any losses at all - totaling this year only about 30."

The Alliance 2010 Annual Report was released late last week to The Roane Alliance Board and to the Roane County Industrial Board Tuesday. The startlingly-high job growth was just one of many of the positive economic signs included in the report, which illustrated, according to Henderson, "....there can be no doubt that Roane County is far along on its way to a strong, healthy recovery....We're back!"

Other highlights from this year's report:

  • Roane County's per capita income continued to climb - now reaching the 16th highest in the state;
  • Month after month, Roane's unemployment rate stayed pegged at one of the lowest in the state, dropping even more as the year went on;
  • A record-setting number of new Chamber members came on board in 2010 - double that of the year before.

A number of other topics were also included in this year's report, from the Alliance's highly-successful Education Matters! Initiatives, to the hosting of last year's National Bass Federation Tournament - which spawned 12 more tournaments to be held in Roane County this coming year - to the release of the latest state tourism figures showing a continued increase in tourism dollars spent in Roane County - now up to $56.07M a year.

 "This report shows that the Alliance, and Roane County, have bounced back very well from the downturn," Alliance Board Chair Ben Andrews said. "I hope you will all read through this comprehensive report to see that we have much to celebrate and much to be proud of in Roane County."

The full report is available on the Roane Alliance's website at: http://www.roanealliance.org/about/index.html

The Alliance is Roane County's economic development organization and consists of both public and private organizations, including the Roane County Chamber of Commerce, the Roane County Industrial Development Board and the Roane County Visitors Bureau.
