Roane County offers a diverse, willing, and available workforce that ranges from the Oak Ridge area of Roane County where there are more PhDs per square mile than anywhere else in the country (along with the technical, scientific and research support staff to go with it) all the way to the traditional blue-collar skilled labor pool from the traditional industrial activity located throughout the rest of the county.

The county also offers an atypically-wide range of educational and occupational training institutions, providing a full menu of workforce training opportunities for all types of commerce and industry. For example, Roane State Community College graduated more technical workers than any other community college in the country last year.

In addition, the county also offers a highly-regarded K-12 public school system, which is the highest ranked county system in the region, according to the state's report card - scoring only behind Oak Ridge and Maryville City Schools, both of which have national reputations.
